Nebraska Task Force 1 (NE-TF1) is making history as one of eleven emergency response teams participating in the nation's largest civilian based search and rescue exercise ever done in the United States.
Over 1,500 trained emergency responders will be stationed at Muscatatuck Urban Training Center (MUTC), Indiana, for the exercise on June 1-7.

A 74-year-old woman who was injured while hiking Piestewa Peak Tuesday afternoon was lifted from the mountain by helicopter, during which the basket she was in began spinning out of control.
Video of the rescue — and the woman's wild ride — was captured by several local television news helicopter cameras.

Firefighters had more than the usual challenges in fighting a fire that was burning a garage on the Key Peninsula early Wednesday morning.
It was around 12:30 a.m. when the fire broke out in the 12000 block of 123rd Street NW, according to Key Peninsula Fire officials.
Firefighters arrived to find extensive flames burning the garage with live ammunition stored inside exploding in the heat, officials said.

The 243 Fire in south Grant County has burned nearly 19,000 acres since sparking Monday evening.
Fire command officials say the blaze is at about 18,770 acres, although those numbers will likely change as better mapping becomes available, pushed east through the Smyrna Canyon, fueled by strong winds in difficult-to-access terrain.

The Birmingham Fire Department will be closing one of their stations Tuesday until further notice.
Fire Station 27 will be closed until an assessment of the station is completed. The assessment is to ensure the safety of the firefighters and other employees of the station.

The assessment comes after a local attorney representing firefighters said they found asbestos and mold in the station.
Station 27 is located at 401 Huffman Road. To ensure coverage of the area, a contingency plan has been implemented to distribute crews and other equipment to the community.
