Firefighters extricate woman stuck in sand, mud near Lisabeula Park

PHOTO: Early this month, the fire department freed a woman who was stuck in mud and sand near Lisabeula Park. Lore Wintergreen, a new island resident, said she and her partner had gone for a walk on March 2 at low tide. She ventured ahead, ultimately growing stuck and sinking knee-deep in mud, which sucked her down.

Marysville: Non-sufficient funds mean Regional Fire Authority is needed to improve response times

If you’re having a medical emergency or fire, nothing’s more important than time. Reducing response time is just one improvement residents can expect if they vote for a Regional Fire Authority on the April 23 ballot, supporters say. Another reason for an RFA is NSF, or non-sufficient funds. The fire department is running out of savings used to keep the operation running the past few years.

Fire burns Port Townsend home

No one was injured when a modular home erupted in flames in the 500 block of Hidden Trails Road. The Tuesday blaze was discovered by a friend of the owner who arrived on scene to care for animals at the residence, according to East Jefferson Fire-Rescue. She noticed fire and smoke and called 9-1-1 and firefighters were called to the flames at 2:43 p.

Montesano crew picks firefighter of the year

Volunteer firefighter and EMT Zale Carter has been selected as the Montesano firefighter of the year. His peers at the Montesano Fire Department voted to present him with the honor. There are six paid staff members and 37 volunteers with the MFD. “It is the greatest honor I could ever imagine,” the Elma native said in an email.

Fire destroys home in Port Angeles

The Port Angeles Fire Department is investigating the cause of a fire Wednesday night that destroyed a house, killed several pets and left a couple without a home. “It was rolling, heaving fire conditions out the front door and the front two windows,” said Capt. Jamie Mason. “We started a defensive attack from the outside, transitioned inside and did a primary and secondary search where we found several deceased animals but no humans.
