‘Purely politics’: South Carolina town council reverses decision to hire first paid fire chief

VIDEO: Clover isn’t bringing on a new paid chief after all. A lengthy Clover Town Council executive session Monday night led to a reversal of course on hiring a new chief. “At last night’s meeting, the town council voted to change the policy directive with regard to the hiring of paid personnel at the Clover Fire Department,” said Allison Harvey, town administrator.

Longview council swears in new fire chief

In a surprise announcement, Jim Kambeitz was sworn-in as Longview fire chief at the City Council meeting Thursday night. “I’m honored to continue to serve in the Longview Fire Department,” Kambeitz told the audience, which included about 20 firefighters and law enforcement officers. “I’m very confident in our member’s skill, professionalism and ability to carry out their mission for the citizens of Longview.

House passes House Bill 1784 to mandate wildfire prevention corridors

New legislation to prevent the spread of wildfire and protect emergency responders has passed the Washington House of Representatives on a total majority vote. House Bill 1784 (HB1784) would require the state Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to change the way it administers forest health treatment plans to specifically include strategic wildfire prevention, especially for the creation of prevention corridors.

Indianapolis Fire Apparatus Destroyed in Crash

 
 
 

The fire truck was on its way to help a person with difficulty breathing when it was struck by an on-coming Chrysler 300 near East 38th Street and Butler Avenue about 11:40 p.m., Indianapolis Fire Department Battalion Chief Rita Reith said.  

The fire truck's light and sirens were activated. The driver of the eastbound Chrysler crossed the center lane and collided with the westbound truck, Reith said.

Man Charged with Attempting to Steal Tazewell (TN) Fire Apparatus

 
 

Police spotted Rodriguez while investigating a report of a suspicious person attempting to break into vehicles near the Tazewell/New Tazewell Fire Department's station house early Sunday.  

The responding officer noticed one of the fire hall's bay doors open, and the ladder truck idling inside with its lights activated. Rodriguez was in the driver's seat, the release states.

The suspect also stole a fuel card from the fire department, according to the release.
