The city of Medical Lake and Spokane County Fire District 3 are discussing a merger due to an increasing number of no-response calls by the city's all-volunteer fire department.
The Medical Lake Fire Department failed to respond to over one-quarter of the calls they received in 2018, according to a city report.

An apartment went up in flames early Sunday morning in Yakima.
The apartment located on the 400 block of N 6th street broke out into fire Sunday morning around 2:30 am.
According to responding units the stairwell of the apartment was on fire making it difficult for firefighters to get up.
There was a man located on the second floor who ended up jumping out of the building firefighters say.

Spokane Valley firefighters are crediting working carbon monoxide detectors with keeping a couple safe this weekend.
The Fire Department says two people, identified as Michael and Nancy, got out of their home and called 911 when their carbon monoxide alarm sounded on Sunday. Firefighters and Avista came out to inspect the house.
