Jackson (MI) Has New Fire Apparatus

The Deputy Director of Fire Services, David Wooden, said that this is a 20-year investment and it will greatly improve service to the community.

 

The department hopes to have Tower 8 in service in January once all crews are trained on how to use it.  

“It will better fit our needs than the previous ladder. We want to give the community the best protection we can,” Wooden said.

He added that the new truck is also outfitted with the latest technology, and can pump up to 2,000 gallons of water per minute.

Fire allegedly set by suicidal man destroys Lynnwood home

South County Fire provided more details on its response to a fully-involved house fire east of Lynnwood on Wednesday night. According to South County Fire spokeswoman Leslie Hynes, the fire was reported at 8:08 p.m. by a woman who told 911 dispatchers her adult son called and said he was suicidal — and was setting fire to the abandoned house where he had been staying in the 19900 block of Locust Way.

‘I owe him my life’ Dog saves sleeping owner from SeaTac house fire

A Washington man is thankful that his dog saved his life after their home caught fire in the middle of the night. Casey is being credited with alerting his owner to a fire inside their house early Thursday morning in SeaTac. The dog's owner, John Corey, says he was asleep around 3:00 a.m. when Casey jumped up on him to wake him up.

Search for new North Whatcom Fire and Rescue fire chief could take months

Less than two months remain before North Whatcom Fire and Rescue (NWFR) must appoint a new fire chief, at least on an interim basis. William Pernett announced his resignation from the position in October. Citing an interest in pursuing other professional opportunities, Pernett said his last day will be Monday, December 31.

After months of delays, city of Muncie rejects all ambulance bids

In Wednesday morning's meeting of the Board of Works and Public Safety, attorney Maura Hoff of the firm DeFur Voran — which has been reviewing emergency medical service bids for the city in the weeks since they were received — asked the board to reject the bids.

Hoff said the committee reviewing the bids had determined "none were in the city's best interest at this time."

No details of the bids, other than the names of the bidders, have been released. Hoff said Wednesday that the bids would be made available for public inspection once financial details were redacted.
