New Mexico firefighter: Still battling blazes after 45 years

Ron Herrera could have stopped fighting fires years ago. But what exactly, he wonders, would he do with himself then? Honored Monday for wrapping his 45th year with Albuquerque Fire Rescue, the 66-year-old lieutenant has now logged the equivalent of more than two full careers with the department. He once worked alongside the fathers – and, in at least one case, the grandfather – of some of his current peers.

No Injuries In Spanaway House Fire Monday: Central Pierce Fire & Rescue

Central Pierce Fire & Rescue quickly knocked down a residential fire near Spanaway Lake High School Monday afternoon. No injuries were reported. The fire broke out at a home about a quarter-mile away from the school, at the intersection of 168th Street and 10th Avenue east. SOS Printings former owner dies in wreck on South Discovery Road in Port Townsend

A 66-year-old man is dead after the vehicle he was driving left the road and hit a tree. Daniel Huntingford of Port Townsend was pronounced dead at the scene Monday afternoon. The single-vehicle wreck occurred on South Discovery Road near Olympic Boulevard, just south of the intersection with Cape George Road.

Suspected Drunk Driver Causes Edinburg (TX) EMS Accident that Kills Medic, Patient

Felipe Huerta, Jr., 32, and his patient, Delia Cortines, 68, died when the driver of a Ford F-250 drove into oncoming traffic and hit the ambulance head-on, police said.  A second medic, identified as Andrea Rodriguez, 24, is in the hospital and expected to recover. She was in the back of the ambulance attending to Cortines at the time of the crash. Edinburg police say the driver of the F-250, a 34-year-old male, is in police custody pending criminal charges.
