LaCrosse (FL) Gets New Fire Apparatus

The department purchased a used 2012 Pierce Dash engine from ARFF Truck Sales for $31,000. It was originally valued at $600,000. 

The truck, which was purchased in November, is fitted with a 750 gallon tank, a deck gun for more precise fire fighting and an extricator or “jaws of life.”

Dresden (ME) Residents Voting on Whether to Trade-In Fire Apparatus

Town residents will decide whether to trade in 33-year-old Engine 5 for $6,000, accept a $2,000 donation from the Dresden Fire Association and allocate $3,000 from the town’s Fire Department Equipment budget to fund the purchase of a used ladder truck for $11,000 from Massachusetts-based emergency vehicle dealership Greenwood Emergency Vehicles LLC. Dresden Fire Chief Steve Lilly, who brought the proposal detailed on the warrant to the selectmen last month, is the parts and service shop foreman for Greenwood’s Brunswick location, according to the company’s website.

Driver Killed in Wrong-Way Collision with San Diego Fire Apparatus Identified

 
 

Rodrigo Cano Martin, 41 of San Diego, was traveling the wrong way on Interstate 5 at State Route 94 Thursday morning when he slammed into San Diego Fire-Rescue engine 11.  

Engine 11 was responding to a pedestrian hit-and-run crash at about 2 a.m. when Martin slammed his Toyota Carolla into it, CHP said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Dryer fire renders Yakima home unlivable

A family is without a home after a dryer fire Wednesday rendered their house unlivable. Yakima firefighters responded about 10:40 a.m. to a structure fire at 514 N. 22nd Ave. The first crew to arrive found the residents evacuating and saw smoke coming from the home, according to a Yakima Fire Department news release.

Transport fees come back into focus at Vashon fire district

More than a year after the Vashon fire district began charging for ambulance transport to area hospitals, those fees are back in the spotlight, with commissioners exploring charging insurance companies only, not individuals. A handful of islanders attended last week’s fire commissioners’ meeting and raised concerns about the fees, saying that they were concerned the charges would prevent people from calling 911 when necessary.
