An agreement to sell two-plus acres of land in Rock Island owned by the Douglas County PUD to Douglas County Fire District 2 was struck this week. Fire Chief Dave Baker says District 2 plans to build a new fire station on the property, which is sorely needed since they currently only have a single resident station in the area.

The Camas-Washougal Fire Department responded to an active fire burning in an attached garage at a home in the 4000 block of C Street, Washougal, around 5:30 a.m. today. The occupants were home when the fire started but evacuated without injuries, according to a release from the department. Firefighters quickly brought the fire under control, although there was “significant smoke and fire damage” to items in the garage, and smoke damage to the rest of the structure, according to the release.

Tonight firefighters continue to look into what caused a house fire earlier Wednesday night, something they say happens too often this time of year. Around 6:30 p.m., neighbors called 911 after seeing heavy smoke coming from a home near Altamont Street and Riverside Avenue. They kicked in the front door to make sure no one was inside as they waited for firefighters.
