Bremerton veteran who lost a leg becomes a firefighter

An injured veteran continued his tradition of serving others with an important graduation Saturday. Retired Air Force Tech Sgt. Daniel Fye was serving his fourth tour of duty in Afghanistan in 2011, when he stepped on an IED. He lost his left leg below the knee, and fought for months of surgery to keep his right leg.

Impacts From the Failure of Levy Lift in Mercer Island

The City of Mercer Island’s Proposition 1 (Levy lid lift) failed at the November 6 General Election. Over the course of the next six years, this measure would have generated sufficient funding to maintain current levels of service across a wide range of City programs, including police and emergency services, mental health counseling, safety net services, maintenance of parks, trails, playgrounds and ball fields, and recreation services.

Mother escapes Puyallup apartment fire along with two young children

It was a remarkable escape by a mother and her two children when fire broke out inside their apartment unit at Cambridge Apartments in Puyallup early Sunday morning. The mom lowered her kids out the window using blankets before jumping out. 7-year-old Jonathan and his 15-month-old brother Julian are lucky to be alive thanks to the actions of their quick-thinking mother.
