Dowagiac (MI) Buys New Fire Apparatus

Public Safety Director Steve Grinnewald said council members approved buying a new fire truck to replace one that is 29 years old. The total price of the truck from the Rosenbauer Co. is $352,797 which includes more than $12,000 worth of extra equipment.  

Grinnewald said the city has a replacement schedule for major items such as fire trucks in order to set aside funds over a number of years. The useful life of a fire truck is usually 25 years and this truck lasted 29 years.

Marysville Regional Fire Authority agreement may be approved

Marysville and Fire District 12 officials hope to improve local fire and emergency services by forming a Regional Fire Authority. After years of negotiating city and fire district representatives are ready to submit a final proposal to the Marysville City Council and Fire District 12 commissioners. “Tonight we reached the last milestone in the plan and we have to take it back to the respective bodies for a vote,” said Martin McFalls, Fire Chief of the Marysville Fire District.

Redmond police seek arsonist who is setting fires inside unlocked cars

Redmond police are searching for an arsonist who’s set more than half-a-dozen fires within the past week. Most of the fires were set inside parked vehicles, police said. All but one of the fires was out by the time the arsons were discovered. "I opened the window and smoke comes billowing out. Then you just kinda go into shock and start to process what you’re looking at," said victim Bryan Zembruski.

WDFW lifts fire restrictions for most of Eastern Washington

The recent spate of cooler temperatures and elevated humidity levels in Eastern Washington has led the Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife (WDFW) to lift fire restrictions on many of the lands they manage there. According to the manager of WDFW’s Lands Division Cynthia Wikerson, the action is consistent with, and follows a similar lifting of restrictions by the Department of Natural Resources (DNR), which is responsible for fire protection on many wildlife areas in the state.

Seattle: Firefighters working to rescue 150-foot boat sinking in Puget Sound

Firefighters and rescue crews have determined no one was on board a small wooden sailboat that is taking on water in Puget Sound. The vessel was spotted leaning far to its side about 150 feet off the 11000 block of Arroyo Beach Pl. SW, Seattle Fire officials said. After determining there was no one to rescue, firefighters have left the scene.
