Aerial Ladder Fire Truck Unveiled In Solvang (CA)

The Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians is taking the Santa Barbara County Fire Department to new heights.  A customized $1.2 million dollar aerial ladder truck, spanning over 100 feet into the air, now calls Solvang home.  The tribe and Solvang also worked together to reconfigure Station 30 to accommodate the 37-foot,  77,000-pound truck.

Metro fire gets new fire truck

Chief Pat Parker says it's typical to get new trucks after about 20 years.

The new truck is replacing one that was purchased back in 1993.

Parker also says the new truck has better gas mileage and new safety features like air bags that the other trucks don't have.

Newville To Welcome Home Restored 1916 Fire Engine

The century-old apparatus was so well-maintained by the Friendship Hose crew that the bulk of the restoration work went toward repainting the pumper to its original factory color scheme of two-tone bright red accented with gold leaf and trim.

Aside from the rotary pump with two intakes and one discharge valve, the 1916 Newville engine has a truck bed to carry hose and a 40-gallon tank to hold fire suppression chemicals.

Chemical tanks are rare on pumpers that are 102 years old, Fillinger said. He said the Newville engine also has its original solid rubber tires and wood spoke wheels instead of the metal replacement wheels with pneumatic tires.

Wood-Ridge Fire Department Offers Fire Engine Rides as Part of Fire Prevention Week

Children will be treated to donuts and apple cider, watch a short film on fire prevention and take a ride inside one of the fire trucks around town. A parent or guardian must be present the day of the event and sign a permission slip for their child(ren) to participate. The Bergen County Fire Prevention trailer will also be on site so children can experience a smoke-filled environment.

Fire Apparatus Operating at Suburban Chicago Fire

Tim Olk was on location at this Maine Township, Illinois, condo fire. The fire killed an elderly resident. Four firefighters were taken to the hospital for heat exhaustion adn minor injuries. Shown here are various fire apparatus operating on the scene.
