Hermitage (PA) Debuts New Fire Apparatus

While the old truck featured a boom with a bucket, the new truck has a boom, bucket and a ladder. The truck also has room for additional equipment, including the hydraulic rescue tool known as the Jaws of Life, hoses, tarps, extinguishers, fans and extra “ground ladders.”

“Typically, whenever we’re responding to a fire at a two-story house, we go around and ladder all the windows,” Flynn said. “It gives firefighters another way to exit the building if they have to get out in a hurry.”

Having the increased reach of the new truck’s boom also allows for tactics such as vertical ventilation, where firefighters can be deployed on a structure’s roof. The firefighters can then open vents or cut holes in the roof, which allows heat and smoke to escape, Flynn said.

Super Vac Introduces All-New Battery Fan Equipped with Dual DeWalt FLEXVOLT® Batteries

FORT COLLINS, CO—Super Vac is introducing an all-new 18” variable-speed battery fan, equipped with dual DeWalt FLEXVOLT batteries, making this one of the most swappable PPV interfaces on the market.

Never in firefighter history has one battery fan worked together with departments’ other DeWalt battery-operated tools. This Super Vac-built V18-BD fan pairs with more than 180 DeWalt products, simplifying your battery purchases.

“We’re proud of this addition. The DeWalt and Super Vac names are long-trusted names, and we simply brought them together to deliver the most dependable PPV fan on the market,” Super Vac President Roger Weinmeister said. “This fan rounds out our full line of PPV fans, making it the most robust offering you’ll find. From an 8” Nano to our 80” industrial fan, we are the industry’s one-stop ventilation shop.”

Super Vac’s newest fan is available with dual 9ah or 12ah DeWalt FLEXVOLT batteries, and departments can equip the fan with optional 120-240V AC shore power. The fan delivers a 9,650-cfm output and up to 45 minutes of run time at max airflow, depending on battery selection. Super Vac plans to back these ratings with third-party testing, in accordance with the Air Movement Control Association (AMCA publication 240).

The V18-BD is also being touted as one of the smallest and lightest battery fans in the industry, weighing in at 46 pounds with a 25.5” x 25” x 11” footprint. The fan also features a unique design that allows for 180-degree tilt for various attacks, allowing the PPV to be directed at attics or manholes or positioned for positive or negative ventilation. The V18-BD’s curved handle provides higher grip for better ergonomics, and standard tires make it highly maneuverable.
