Former Davenport Fire Chief Lynn Washburn is a finalist to lead the Ames (Iowa) Fire Department. The announcement came less than two hours after the latest court hearing over her employment dispute with Davenport ended.
Washburn, who was fired in 2017, is one of two finalists for the fire chief position.

Murray County assistant fire chief Chris Butler, a 21-year veteran of the department, has resigned after being arrested for two counts each of simple
battery and willful obstruction or hindrance of a firefighter, both misdemeanors, after a dispute at the scene of a fire earlier this month.

VIDEO - Most of Omaha's fire stations are now equipped with state-of-the-art equipment to alert them to emergencies.
It's been five months since KETV Newswatch 7 first reported on firefighters at two stations using a "pop can" alarm as a backup to the broken system. Firefighters placed pop cans on top of a printer and listened for the sound of the cans falling to the floor to alert them to an emergency.

Eastbound I-90 remains closed in Kittitas County due to a 70,000-acre brush fire. Westbound I-90 reopened Friday about 7 a.m.
Fast-moving flames are blowing heavy smoke over the roadway. The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) says eastbound I-90 is closed at exit 115 in Kittitas, eight miles east of Ellensburg.

An off-duty Seattle firefighter and his 2-year-old daughter were attacked with pepper spray at Green Lake Park on Wednesday night, according to Seattle Police.
Officers were called to an area near East Green Lake Way N. and NE Ravenna Blvd around 5:30 p.m.
When they arrived, the firefighter told them he and had been sprayed in the face with pepper spray by a man who was walking around the park.
