Five large fires still burning around the Northwest

While temperatures begin to cool down as we head into fall, there are several fires crews are still working to put them out. Here are the five biggest, and how they're looking now. The Crescent Mountain fire burning in the Okanogan-Wenatchee forest is the largest fire at 51,584 acres. As of Sunday it is 75 percent contained.

Man grinding metal starts brush fire in Pasco

A man grinding metal started a half acre brush fire off of Road 96 in Pasco on Sunday afternoon. Crews were called out to the fire at around 4 p.m. They say the man was using a piece of equipment to grind metal when the grass caught on fire, and the high winds caused the blaze to quickly spread. Firefighters were on the scene for a couple of hours trying to put out the blaze and making sure there were no more hot spots.

Three people escape Yakima Greenway fire

Three people narrowly escaped getting caught in a fire Saturday afternoon on the Yakima Greenway. The people were inside a small encampment between trees when firefighters alerted them to the fire, said Yakima Fire Capt. Brandon Dormbush. Dormbush said the people were gathering their belongings and barely made it out, with 15-foot-tall flames close behind them.

Fire Commissioners support ballot measure to replace aging Snohomish County radio system

The South County Fire Board of Commissioners has unanimously approved a resolution supporting a ballot measure to fund replacement of the county’s aging 911 radio system. Snohomish County Proposition 1 will be on the ballot for county voters in the Nov. 6 general election and seeks a sales tax increase of one-tenth of one percent to replace the 20-year-old Snohomish County Emergency Radio System that firefighters, police and dispatchers use to communicate when responding to 911 calls.
