Fire at Sunrise Meats in Port Angeles halts work

New fines in Tacoma for false fire alarms, 911 nonemergency calls from care centers

The 2019-20 Tacoma city budget — approved Tuesday by the City Council — includes two new fines. The first is a $150 penalty for a false fire alarm at a residence and $250 at a commercial building. The second imposes up to $850 when a skilled nursing facility or assisted living center calls the Fire Department or its contractors to lift a fallen resident when no other medical service is needed.

Family of intubated dead man files claims for more than $15 million with Bellingham

Family members of the deceased man Bellingham Fire Department employees practiced performing endotracheal intubations on in late July have filed three separate claims for damages seeking more than $15.5 million from the city of Bellingham, according to records from the Bellingham City Attorney’s office.

New Fire Station Proposed in Red Bluf (CA)

Funding for the project would come from a grant through the 2018/2019 Community Development Block Grant program.  

An application must be submitted by the city for funding once a project is chosen and presented. The project for the second firehouse earned unanimous approval from the council.

Finance Director Sandy Ryan reviewed different project ideas, such as water and sewer infrastructure projects as well as park projects, but ultimately determined the new fire station to be the best choice for the application.
