Spokane City Council votes to require firefighters, police officers to only work with city dispatchers

The Spokane City Council unanimously approved an ordinance Monday which would require Spokane firefighters and police officers to only work with dispatchers who are city employees. City Council President Ben Stuckart, who sponsored the ordinance, said it was designed to reassure city employees and maintain city control over dispatch services in the face of a potential region-wide communications integration.

Burn near Chelan gets out of control but is quickly extinguished by fire crews

A debris burn on private property got out of control Monday evening in the Washington Creek area near Chelan but was contained and extinguished in less than an hour by crews from Chelan Fire and Rescue. The fire department reported that as crews arrived winds were fanning the fire, with flames reaching three to five feet high.

Car Crashes into La Jolla (CA) Fire Station

The crash happened around 7:30 p.m. at San Diego Fire-Rescue Department’s station 9. The car veered off the road and crashed into the patio wall of the station, while crews were eating dinner, according to Battalion Chief Joseph Scuri. The car missed the firefighters by about 12 feet. No one was injured.  

Three people were in the car at the time, but were also not injured. A natural gas line to an outdoor barbeque was hit and severed. Firefighters quickly turned off the gas to the station. SDG&E came out and repaired it.
