Local Fire Department Gets Bullet Proof Vests

The department spent $45,000 for 45 vests and helmets. Since the vests will be shared, they adjust to fit each person. 

"We will not go into a hot or warm zone where there is known to be active shooting or some type of disturbance," explained Gillespie. "Like we have always done in Schenectady Fire Department, if there is a potential for domestic violence, we stage for local law enforcement to arrive on the scene to make sure that scene is safe."

Grant helps Knoxville (IL) Fire Dept. upgrade equipment

A news conference was held Thursday afternoon at the Knoxville Fire Station to announce the $2,985 grant, nearly the maximum, awarded to the fire district by Compeer Financial of Monmouth.

Seven pairs of fire resistant and penetration-resistant gloves were bought as well as a calibration system for three electronic monitors that can read the levels of oxygen, carbon monoxide, flammables and other elements in a room.

“It’s certainly a need and allows our district and firefighters to serve better,” said Don Moffitt, a trustee of the fire protection district’s board.

Two Woodland residents displaced by house fire

Two Woodland residents lost their home Thursday in a fire started by hot coals in their outdoor garbage bins, said Max Konkright, Clark County Fire and Rescue battalion chief. The fire in the 100 block of Wallace Road started just before 4 p.m., Konkright said. About 20 firefighters from Cowlitz District 1, Kalama District 5 and Clark County Fire and Rescue responded to put it out.

Veteran Washington firefighter was sleeping when run over by pickup truck at California wildfire

A veteran firefighter who came to California from Washington state to fight the Woolsey fire was left with major injuries when he was run over by a pickup truck as he slept at night in a field next to a fire truck in the Malibu area, the California Highway Patrol said Thursday. FDNY retaliated against two EMS lieutenants upset over a new pilot program, labor board rules

Top Fire Department brass retaliated against two emergency medical services lieutenants due to their “union activity,” a labor board ruled, the Daily News has learned. FDNY Lt. Douglas Rondon was “totally restricted” from duty for an entire year after he reached out to his union president for assistance on potential disciplinary charges.
