Pennsylvania firefighters lose hearing loss lawsuit, couldn't prove different sirens would protect motorists

According to a majority panel of the Superior Court of Pennsylvania, a group of Pittsburgh firefighters did not prove that a different design for a fire truck siren they say permanently damaged their hearing would have been safer. On Aug. 20 in a 2-1 decision, Superior Court judges Mary Jane Bowes and Paula Francisco Ott upheld a granting of summary judgment to Federal Signal Corporation and dismissing the case brought by firefighters Ronald M.

Terminated Ohio fire chief sues to get job back

A longtime township fire chief in Pickaway County who was fired this month has sued to get his job back. Porter “Chip” Welch had been chief of the Scioto Township Fire Department in the northern part of the county since 2005. Township trustees met on Aug. 16 and fired him. Trustee Ralph Wolfe told The Dispatch that no one from the township could comment.

IAFC’s Fire Service Executive Development Institute Available for 7th Year

For the seventh year, the IAFC received a grant from the Motorola Solutions Foundation to fund another year of the Fire Service Executive Development Institute (FSEDI). FSEDI is a program developed by the IAFC to provide new and aspiring chiefs with the tools they need to have a successful and productive tenure.

Vancouver Fire Department awarded $216k federal grant

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has awarded the City of Vancouver’s Fire Marshal’s Office an approximately $216,000 Fire Prevention and Safety grant. The grant will support the Vancouver Fire Marshal’s Project HomeSafe campaign to reduce the frequency and severity of residential fires through fire and life safety education and outreach.

Jim Kambeitz named as Longview’s Interim Fire Chief

The City of Longview is pleased to announce the appointment of Jim Kambeitz as its interim fire chief effective September 17, 2018. He has been the City of Longview fire marshal for over 15 years and says, “I am honored to continue to serve the citizens of Longview.” Kambeitz has been in the fire service since 1987 where he has served as a firefighter, hazmat tech, fire inspector, deputy fire marshal and fire marshal.
