Bay City and Hampton Township took that mutual level of cooperation to a new level when they bought an aerial fire truck to share.

Bay City's aerial truck was more than 20 years old, while Hampton Township's has been in service for over 35 years.

 

At the start of their shift, the firefighters physically pushed the new truck into the garage. It weighs about 50,000 and it took 21 firefighters to push it inside.

It was all part of a ceremonial tradition that they do each time they get a new truck. 

 

North Whatcom Fire & Rescue reports that the June 4 cancer death of firefighter John O. Swobody is the first line-of-duty death in the fire district’s history. Swobody, a firefighter for almost 19 years, passed in the evening with family and friends at his side, the district posted. John is survived by his wife Annette and three children.

Three Lewis County fire chiefs have scheduled a series of classes intended to teach homeowners how to protect their property in the event of a wildfire. The classes will be conducted by Chehalis Fire Chief Ken Cardinale, Riverside Fire Authority Chief Mike Kytta and Lewis County Fire District 6 Chief Tim Kinder.

There is an unusual new opportunity available for Lyle Community Schools students interested in exploring a career in emergency medical services or firefighting. The Lyle Volunteer Fire Department has developed a cadet program that will allow students who participate to earn Career and Technical Education (CTE) credits.
