Chicago firefighter takes heat after taking knee at police-fire football game

A political and emotional brush fire is smoldering within a grieving Chicago Fire Department over a national anthem protest that marred a charity football game dedicated to the memory of two fallen Chicago heroes. Camron McGarity, an African-American firefighter, kneeled while the Star Spangled Banner was being played before the CFD Blaze faced off against the Chicago Police Department’s Enforcers last Saturday in the eighth annual “First Responders Bowl.

California firefighter appears on 'American Ninja Warrior' TV show

San Luis Obispo firefighter Thomas Kofron is no stranger to high-stakes situations. He saved his family's home from a devastating wildfire using only bottled water and orange juice. On Wednesday, Kofron faced an even tougher challenge: surviving an extreme obstacle course on national TV. Kofron, who works for Cal Fire, appeared Wednesday on NBC's "American Ninja Warrior," which challenges competitors to prove their physical mettle in the hopes of winning $1 million.

Kenton Fire Department (OH) Adds Medic Unit

With the addition of this new medic unit, the Fire Department will now be able to transport patients as well as respond to EMS calls and treat patients all without waiting for another agency to respond.

According to a statement the department said that “The Kenton Fire Department is dedicated to providing the best service possible to the residents of the City of Kenton and surrounding townships and is working diligently to ensure that service is upheld.”

Wadsworth (OH) Receives Grant for Firefighting Equipment

The money, which will be presented at noon Monday at the Wadsworth Fire Department Station 1, 153 Lyman St., is coming from the Westfield Insurance Foundation.

“By receiving this award, the Wadsworth Fire & EMS will have the opportunity to help protect our own members,” Wadsworth Fire Chief Robert Lindner said in a prepared statement. “This grant will provide vital safety gear for our firefighters. We can’t fully express our gratitude.”

Stanton Community (MI) Fire Department Takes Unfinished Fire Apparatus Back

Officials with the Stanton Community Fire Department, which serves three townships and the city of Stanton, drove to Grand Ledge firm Etankers Friday morning and took their unfinished truck chassis back.

Sidney Township Supervisor Terry Peterman, who also serves on Stanton's fire board, said he was one of  the officials who retrieved the truck. He said three employees were at Etankers' property off West Grand River Highway in Grand Ledge when they arrived.
