Man allegedly runs across I-5 in Woodland, sets van on fire, kicks paramedic

Woodland police arrested a man early Wednesday morning after he allegedly set his van on fire in a Safeway parking lot and kicked a paramedic in the face. According to Woodland Police Chief Jim Kelly, officers received a call at 1:30 a.m. that someone had set off fire alarms at the Rodeway Inn on Atlantic Avenue.

Port Hadlock man homeless after early morning fire

A Port Hadlock man was left homeless after an early Thursday morning fire destroyed his home in the 3700 block of Oak Bay Rd. There were no injuries, according to a news release from East Jefferson Fire Rescue. The victim’s name was not readily available. EJFR was toned to the fire at 5:08 a.m. after the man returned from a quick trip to the grocery store and found his home fully engulfed in flames.

Retired Spokane firefighter killed in ultralight aircraft crash on Snake River

A retired Spokane firefighter was killed early Wednesday morning after authorities say he crashed his ultralight airplane on the Snake River. Whitman County Sheriff’s deputies say 64-year-old Ronny F. Weston of Cheney crashed the Solaris 16.8 ultralight aircraft on the Snake River just east of Boyer Park and Marina after taking off from a nearby airstrip at about 6:30 a.

Alaska city's new fire chief is first woman to lead the department

Jodie Hettrick has been appointed to lead the Anchorage Fire Department, according to an announcement Wednesday from the mayor’s office. Hettrick joined the department in 2012. She has served as acting chief since the previous chief, Denis LeBlanc, retired in May. Now that her position is official, Hettrick says there are some internal initiatives that can go forward.

Amid reports of fraud and misconduct at the fire station, commissioner stood by Florida chiefs

Hernando County commissioners shut down the Hernando Beach Volunteer Fire Department on Valentine’s Day 2017. They did so for good reason. The volunteers were failing to respond to 911 calls. They’d ignored a state requirement to hire a medical director. For more than two years, they never produced a financial audit to show how they were spending taxpayer dollars.
