Squabbling over helicopter rescues prompts California county sheriff, fire officials to offer plan for better teamwork

After an extended and potentially dangerous squabble over which agency is better equipped to handle air rescues, Orange County fire and sheriff’s officials said Wednesday they’ve come up with a plan that emphasizes teamwork and will enable safer and more efficient emergency responses. The joint plan emerged following a bitter, months-long feud between sheriff’s deputies and firefighters over rescues that involved the use of helicopters, and which in some cases led to delays in transporting injured people to hospitals.

Washington’s wildfire season on pace to be among worst in recent history

Our wildfire season is heating up to be among the most expensive and longest on record. State fire officials say we haven’t seen a fire season like this since 2015, which was the costliest in state history. Our dry, hot weather isn’t helping crews who are trying to contain the flames already spreading across the state.

Fire Station Closed Near Five Youngstown (OH) House Fires

According to the Youngstown Fire Department website, Fire Station Number Three, right around the corner from one of the fires on Midland, was scheduled to be closed until yesterday as part a plan to rotate station closings around the city in a money-saving move by the fire department.

Greenville (WI) Gets Approval for $6.5 Million Fire Station

The approval comes three years after a referendum to build the new station and expand the town hall was voted down.

The town says the current fire station had no more room left.

 

The town says that's important as the area continues to grow. Greenville says the current station will still be put to use once the fire department relocates

Greenhead (FL) Fire Station Moving

The design will also allow the station to be used as a staging area during hurricanes.  

"We're trying to think ahead and make sure that if we build something, we can utilize it long-term as the growth in the south end of Washington County is definitely coming," Greenhead Fire Department Chief Jim Palmer said.
