Ottawa Fire Department Chief Tim Matthias talks with the over 60 attendees of Sunday new fire engine dedication and open house at the Ottawa Fire Station, 720 W. 2nd St., Ottawa. The afternoon featured a blessing and “watering” of the truck, during which water from the fire engine being replaced was transported via bucket brigade to the new truck, and tours of the station.

Skaneateles (NY) Fire Apparatus Runs Off Road Responding to Call

A Skaneateles fire truck was involved in a single-vehicle accident early Monday morning on Benson Road while responding to a reported residential fire.

There were no injuries when the fire truck ran off the road while responding to the call on Hencoop Road in the town of Skaneateles, according to Fire Chief Daniel S. Evans.

The accident occurred shortly after 7 a.m., Evans said.

Evans said the investigation into the accident and its cause is ongoing.

Douglas County Fire District 4 seeks tax increase

In 2002, Douglas County Fire District 4 responded to 72 calls. That’s jumped to over 190 this year, and Fire Chief Jim Oatey predicts it’ll be about 310 in 2028. “Our community has changed from a small farming community to a bedroom community and a vacation community,” he said. “Orchards have been taken out along the river, and houses have been built.

Tax would fund new Snohomish County emergency radio system

Snohomish County’s emergency radio system is nearly at its expiration date and a 0.1 percent sales tax increase on this November’s ballot would allow for a replacement of that system. The Snohomish County Emergency Radio System (SERS) is an organization which runs and maintains the system, which helps coordinate communication between 911 dispatchers and local police officers, firefighters and other emergency services.

When a police dog arrived, Marysville arson suspect turns himself in

A man suspected of setting a detached garage on fire was arrested Friday. When police spotted him, he started running. Officers eventually lost sight of him, so they brought out a police dog to try and track him down. Police warned the hiding suspect that he could be bitten if he didn’t give up. The suspect got on the ground.
