Washington has underfunded efforts to control wildfire burning, despite smothering smoke

Even as the state battles wildfires that have smothered parts of the state in smoke for the last two summers, Washington lawmakers have underfunded efforts to control the burning. Since 2015, the legislature has given the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and the Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) — the main state agencies tasked with preventing and combating wildfires — just $18 million out of the $40 million they requested for their operating budget, according to a tally obtained by The Seattle Times from state's Office of Financial Management.

26 Orondo firefighters work to free driver from mangled wreckage of semi crash

A semi driver is in the hospital with severe injuries Tuesday after a semi crash in Orondo. Crews were dispatched the crash at the bottom of the McNeil Canyon Grade, two miles north of the Beebe Bridge at around 6:41 a.m. First arriving firefighters found a heavily damaged semi, on fire, 100 feet down an embankment and through a guardrail.

Clark County Fire District 3 awarded $408,560 Assistance to Firefighters grant

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has awarded Clark County Fire District 3 a $408,560 Assistance to Firefighters Grant. The grant will enable Fire District 3 to replace self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA). Fire District 3 requested the assistance to replace obsolete SCBA equipment with new, safe, interoperable equipment that meets the current minimum requirements of Washington Administrative Code 296.

Arrest Made In 'Biased Graffiti' Left On FDNY Fire Station, Facilities

Fire Marshals were assigned to secure and protect Engine 93/Ladder 45 on West 181 Street, a firehouse that had been previously vandalized with graffiti, when they apprehended Ibrahimov in the act, fire officials said.

Authorities say Ibrahimov is suspected of vandalizing an EMS station and FDNY firehouse and several ambulances on at least two different occasions with hateful and threatening languages, including swastikas.

Estimated $100K In Damages Reported After Two Fire Trucks Collide In D.C.

DC Fire & EMS says both trucks were part of the department’s reserve fleet and are now out of service. Two other trucks have already been put into service to replace them.

As for whether the firefighters driving the two trucks could face charges or disciplinary action, the fire department said they won't know for sure until a DC Police investigation into the crash is complete.
