Fire Board Backs $861,000 Purchase Of New Ladder Truck

Although the two Holland fire board members, Bob Stupi and Jerome Pedretti, admitted the new aerial ladder truck was needed, they objected to how the purchase is to be financed.

They preferred the fire department lease with a possible option to buy the truck instead of requiring each fire board member municipalities fund a third of the purchase cost.

The cost of the new truck will be divided equally among the three member municipalities with each responsible for around $288,000.

New Bainbridge Fire Station 21 Opens On Madison Avenue

On the "working" side of the station, the department now has a decontamination area for those returning from calls, more space in its apparatus bays, a storage room specifically for fire gear, a dedicated room for report writing, a workout and training room that could someday be converted into an apparatus bay, sleeping areas, locker rooms and a large commons and kitchen area for employees. Screens in the station show current weather, traffic and staffing conditions but then flash to a map showing the location of an emergency call when it comes in.

Processional and public service will honor fallen North Whatcom firefighter John Swobody

To honor a local firefighter’s death you will see lots of fire engines in Bellingham Saturday morning. North Whatcom Fire & Rescue announced they will have a procession of fire department vehicles from Blaine to Bellingham before the memorial service for John Swobody. They leave their station in Blaine at 8:00 A.

Oklahoma Gas Line Fire Injures Firefighter, Gas Company Workers

It started with a hissing and then a pop. Four natural gas workers and a Tulsa firefighter were trying to turn off a ruptured gas line when it ignited. The fire burned the four Oklahoma Natural Gas employees and the firefighter. Tulsa Fire Capt. Stan May said the firefighter’s injuries were among the worst.

Keep your hands off FDNY EMTs or face seven-year hitch, new decals warn

Attack an EMT, and you could face serious prison time. That message will be affixed to every FDNY ambulance as part of a campaign by the department to warn would-be attackers that assaulting an EMT or paramedic is a felony. “FDNY EMTs and paramedics are protected by New York state law. Assault is a felony punishable by 7 years in prison,” reads a new decal, soon to be placed on every city ambulance.
