Passing of Fire Industry Leader William J. Darley

William Joseph Darley, age 89, of River Forest, IL, and Williams Bay, WI, passed away at home on April 17, 2018, surrounded by his family. Bill leaves a legacy of love through family, friendships, charities, and a family business.

The accomplishments throughout his life are a testament to his strong work ethic, adventurous spirit, Catholic faith, and devotion to his family and the W. S. Darley & Company, where he served as Chairman of the Board and CEO.

Many will recall Bill's years of involvement in FAMA, leading as its President in 1987. He was recognized as a FAMA Star Achiever recipient in 2000 and was inducted as an Honorary Member in 2004.  Bill was the only FAMA President to have two sons follow him in that role - Paul in 2000, and Peter in 2010.

Of all his successes, Bill is most known not by what he did, but who he was. He was a friend to all - kind, humble, accepting, funny, and true - and he treated all as though he'd known them forever.

Bill was the beloved husband of Frances Butler Darley and the late Jeanne Morrissy Darley; loving father of Stephen (Darlene), Peter (Karen), Thomas (Pamela), James (Christina), Paul (Heidi) Darley, Anne (Randy) Freedman, and the late William C. and Mary Krina (Michael) Mattio; adored grandfather of 12; dear brother of Patricia (the late Dr. Philip) Long and Reginald C. (the late Francella) Darley and the late Julia (the late Edward) LeFevour; and many nieces and nephews.

Space heater likely to blame for Yakima garage fire

Firefighters believe a space heater may be responsible for an early morning fire in Yakima. The fire started about 4 a.m. Thursday morning on the 200 block of Yule road. By the time firefighters arrived, the detached garage was completely engulfed. Firefighters tell us the blaze blew out some of the windows in the home, but thankfully the homeowners were able to get out safely.

AMKUS Releases Next Generation ION Tools

Valparaiso, IN—AMKUS Rescue Systems has introduced a next generation of the ION battery-powered rescue tool family. The ION 2.0 cutter, spreaders, combination tool, and RAM all utilize the DEWALT® FLEXVOLT® battery platform. The 60-volt battery operates ION 2.0 tools and will also power both 60- and 20-volt DEWALT tools. It is the only battery that automatically changes voltages when you change tools, so you can share batteries between ION tools and other tools like saws and drills. Batteries are readily available at locations nationwide, usually for less than $100.

The ION tools are built from solid aluminum, so they’re ready for service in the severe duty demanded by first responders. Extrications don’t always take place outside the vehicle; sometimes you have to get inside to move and cut material. That’s when a compact tool like ION really matters. AMKUS tools are between five and 12 inches shorter than competitors’ models so you can make rescue even in cramped quarters.

ION 2.0 tools carry on the AMKUS tradition of rugged tools that are both balanced and backed by outstanding service and support. New ION 2.0 tools can be found at FDIC International booth 3503. In addition, tool demonstrations will be presented from 2:30 to 4:30 pm at the FDIC Real Time Demo area on Thursday April 26.
