Acreage & containment of Cougar Creek & Crescent Mountain Fires steady

The two major wildfires that are still burning in North Central Washington are both under a new incident management structure as of Thursday. The Cougar Creek Fire, which is centered 21 miles northwest of Entiat, was turned over to the Type 2 Northwest Incident Management Team #10, while the Crescent Mountain Fire, which is burning in the headwaters of the Twisp River Basin, is now under the command of the Type 1 Northern Rockies Incident Management Team.

Chelan Fire and Rescue downgrades staffing as grant funds taper off

Chelan Fire and Rescue must lower its staffing next year after a FEMA grant that helped boost hires runs out at the end of 2018. From its current arrangement of four full-time personnel on duty 24 hours a day, Chelan Fire District 7 will revert to just two staff on duty, Chief Tim Lemon said Thursday.

East County Deputy Fire Chief: ‘We’ve squeezed until we can’t squeeze anymore’

Caught between a state-mandated 1-percent cap on annual property tax increases and rapidly increasing costs, leaders in the East County Fire and Rescue (ECFR) District have decided to ask voters to approve a fire levy lid lift in the November general election. “We have worked very hard to live within our means,” ECFR Deputy Fire Chief Mike Carnes said.

Fire chars waste transfer station building in Moses Lake

A late night fire at a waste transfer station just outside of Moses Lake left a building at the location in ruins. Grant County Fire District No. 5 Battalion Chief Jack Zeilenga said the fire broke out about 10 p.m. Wednesday evening at the Consolidated Disposal Service, Inc. Transfer Station, located in the 9500 block of Road 7 Northeast.

National Induction Ceremony set for October 8th

Emmitsburg, Md.  On Monday, October 8, 2018, the National Fire Heritage Center (NFHC) in Emmitsburg, Maryland, will conduct a formal ceremony for this year’s Inductees into the Hall of Legends, Legacies and Leaders Class of 2018 during the NFHC’s Annual Board of Directors Meeting. All interested are welcome to attend the event which will also include lunch. RSVP’s are requested to allow for food and beverage service.

The Induction Ceremony at 11:00 a.m. Eastern Time will be held in the 2nd floor meeting room of the Vigilant Hose Company Activities Building (formerly Emmitsburg Volunteer Ambulance Company facility) at 17701 Creamery Road, Emmitsburg, Maryland 21727. Those arriving early will be greeted in the 1st floor social hall, where light refreshments will be available, before then being escorted at approximately 10:45 to the location of the Ceremony. The entire site is accessible for the mobility impaired; signage will be posted.

The Hall of Legends, Legacies and Leaders provides individual recognition of significant contributions and distinguished service to the fire and emergency services mission. It is one of the most important initiatives undertaken each year by the National Fire Heritage Center. More than a dozen nationally prominent fire community leaders, past and present, are being inducted on October 8th.
