Monday, firefighters completed control lines around the entire fire area, increasing fire containment to 52%. Hoses were also deployed around a major portion of the fire perimeter, and crews began mopping up hot spots adjacent to fire lines.
The dry cold front associated with gusty winds arrived as predicted last evening and tested the established control lines.

Authorities say the Ryegrass Coulee fire is 0% contained and 1000 acres in size.
In a press briefing Tuesday morning, officials said winds are fueling the flames and the town of Vantage remains under a Level 3 evacuation. Crews are hoping to get an air attack going on the fire soon. Officials also added that one small structure has been lost so far.

As the region enters the hottest, driest season, southern Stevens County has two new fire stations to help keep on top of danger.
Stevens County Fire District 1 Fire Chief Mike Bucy welcomed dozens of community members to an open house earlier this summer to celebrate the opening of the district’s Station 8 in Suncrest as well as a new Station 2 on state Highway 292 in Loon Lake.

A state commission has opened an investigation into the Houston Fire Department’s safety standards after the firefighters’ union accused the department of failing to protect its members from carcinogens to which they are routinely exposed. Texas Commission on Fire Protection investigators will examine whether HFD complies with state laws requiring departments to clean protective clothing, called bunker gear, and maintain a standard operating procedure to do so.

City officials here and those of a fire district that serves part of the city both say a dispute over their longtime agreement could have dire budget consequences.
In December, the city canceled its 23-year-old pact with the Robertson Fire Protection District, saying the contract’s rising cost was jeopardizing other city services.
