East county firefighters union takes issue with staffing level in Camas-Washougal

A dispute in staffing size between the east county firefighters union and the Camas-Washougal Fire Department has gone public after the union wrote about its issues in a Facebook post that has been seen more than 180,000 times since it was published March 7. In the post, East Clark Professional Fire Fighters wrote that fire engine crews are made up of two people, when state law requires at least three to act when responding to a fire.

Man found slain in burned treehouse near Orting; woman shot, wounded; suspect arrested

A man was found slain inside a burned treehouse near Orting and a woman was shot and injured nearby early Monday, the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department said. A suspect was arrested near the scene. Deputies received a 911 call at 3:27 a.m. Monday from a man reporting that a woman has been shot and transported by the suspect to a home on Pioneer Way East in the Orting area, the sheriff’s department said.

Bexar-Bulverde VFD (TX) Gets New Fire Apparatus

With support from the community and several boards, two new fire engines have been added to the department’s fleet.  

Jerry Bialick with the Bexar-Bulverde Volunteer Fire Department said the new engines are state-of-the-art and dependable.

 

The Fire Department has also ordered another ladder truck valued at more than $1 million and hopes to have it by next year. Another brush truck is also expected to be added to the fleet in a couple of months.

Washington District Volunteer Fire Company (WV) Upgrades Firefighting Equipment

The tools include a new Hurst Jaws of Life brand spreader and cutter, a new, high-tech Flir thermal imaging camera and a TL-9 stabilizer.  

The thermal imaging camera replaces an older model.

Responding Conetoe (NC) Fire Apparatus Collides With Truck

State Highway Patrol Trooper Timothy Pope said the driver of a Conetoe Volunteer Fire Department truck collided with a Ford F-350 that was hauling a trailer behind it about 10 a.m. near the Edgecombe-Martin county line.  

According to Pope, firefighters from Conetoe along with the N.C. Forest Service were working to extinguish a brush fire prior to the wreck. An animal control officer with the Martin County Sheriff's Office discovered the fire after he stopped to remove a tire from the roadway.

A firefighter was driving another truck eastbound on the highway from Conetoe to assist in the response when the wreck occurred.
