Report: Donated Palo Alto (CA) Fire Apparatus 'Hidden' at Oaxaca Fire Chief's Home

The report is based on video footage shot by the NGO Citizen’s Eye for Democracy and against Corruption (Ojo Ciudadano por la Democracia y en Contra de la Corrupción) outside the vacation home of Manuel Alberto Maza Sánchez, the head of the state fire department. If the fire engine needed mechanical repairs, it should be in a repair shop or an official facility, reckoned the citizens’ group in an online post. While no formal complaint has been filed in the case, the Oaxaca Secretariat of Government Accountability and Transparency has announced it will investigate.

Fire destroys Kent mobile home; 5 escape

Five people managed to escape from a fire that destroyed one mobile home and damaged a second one early Monday in Kent. Crews responded to the scene, in the 24400 block of 64th Avenue South, at about 5:05 a.m. after receiving reports of smoke and flames at a residence there. The home was already fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.

South Kitsap Fire sued for sexual harassment

Two women firefighters are suing South Kitsap Fire and Rescue, alleging sexual harassment by a battalion chief who retired in January 2017 after the district notified him the fire chief was proposing he be fired. An internal investigation found former Battalion Chief Michael Wernet made inappropriate and degrading remarks and actions toward the women – at times repeating them to others – and once made sexually-charged comments in front of one of the women’s children.

FDNY: All 5 Passengers Dead After Helicopter Crashes Into East River; Pilot Only Survivor

Five people died after a tour helicopter carrying six people crashed into the East River Sunday evening, FDNY and NYPD officials said. Though helicopter crashes in the East and Hudson Rivers are not necessarily uncommon, this becomes one of the deadliest in the city's history, and one of the worst civilian aviation fatalities of any kind in the United States over the last few years.
