Vancouver firefighters responded to a house fire Wednesday morning and found a man in the driveway suffering from smoke inhalation. The firefighters were dispatched about 6:19 a.m. to 820 N.E. 101st Court, a home in the Marrion neighborhood. They arrived at the scene of the fire within five minutes, said Vancouver Fire spokesman Kevin Stromberg.

A man who had apparently fallen out of a boat on Kitsap Lake was rescued by two firefighters who had to borrow a canoe from a lakeshore neighbor. Firefighters from Central Kitsap Fire & Rescue were called to the old boat launch Wednesday morning just after 7 a.m. to help a man in the water. When crews arrived, they could hear the boater calling for help.

All they want to do is to keep fighting fires on millions of acres of private, state and tribal-owned forestlands as part of Washington state's largest on-call fire department. The city firefighters’ union, Local 825, filed a four-count lawsuit alleging a breach of fiduciary duty against the Uniformed Professional Fire Fighters Association of Connecticut, a union which represents the state’s fire departments. “Have you ever had anyone demand money from you? It happens all the time: spam emails, unsolicited phone calls and junk mail,” said Frank Ricci, a battalion chief and president of Local 825.
