Tunnel 5 Fire in Columbia River Gorge 80% contained

The Tunnel 5 Fire burning in Skamania County in Southwest Washington has reached 80% containment as of Monday morning, up from 65% the day before. The fire has burned 529 acres since it began July 2 in the unincorporated area of Underwood across from Hood River. The fire response team of 256 people includes 11 engines, four crews, two helicopters and three dozers.

Orcas Island Fire & Rescue Finances New Emergency Vehicles with Help of the State Treasurer’s Office

Orcas Island Fire & Rescue recently partnered with the Office of the State Treasurer for the first time to finance new emergency response vehicles. Using low-interest financing obtained through OST’s Local Option Capital Asset Lending Program (LOCAL Program), which is a financing program offered to local taxing districts, Orcas Island Fire & Rescue will take delivery of two new Ford Explorer command cars fully equipped for responding to medical emergencies quickly.

VIDEO: Teen helps save family as fire engulfs California home

Cellphone video captured the heart-pounding moments a teenager jumped into action to help save an Upland family whose home caught fire on the Fourth of July. Caleb Delasantos, 19, was watching fireworks with his girlfriend around 10 p.m. when he saw flames shooting up from the residence. He darted to the scene and helped the panicked and disoriented residents before firefighters arrived.

Unanswered questions remain after New Jersey firefighters killed in raging blaze on European-made cargo ship

VIDEO: Investigators are searching for answers after two firefighters were killed and five more were injured while battling a raging blaze aboard a cargo ship docked in Newark, New Jersey. It was the first time since 2007 that a Newark firefighter was killed on the job, according to city officials. The fire was still smoldering as of Friday morning, some 36 hours after it broke out on the massive vessel.
