The grant, which totaled $44,100, was used by the department to purchase three Zoll compression devices, pieces of equipment that will allow the city's first responders to up their game, according to Brad Dornbos, EMS coordinator and a firefighter with the department.

 

The compression devices allow for CPR to be delivered to a patient perfectly and efficiently for any amount of time, according to city officials, thereby lessening injuries to first responders and improving outcomes of individuals in emergencies.

Miami, McLean, Lefors and Hoover volunteer fire departments received $36,000 each from the Panhandle Wildfire Relief Program.

 

$36,000 is more than the Hoover Volunteer Fire Department's yearly budget. They will use the donation money for some much need upgrades. The department was able to replace it's old gear with new gear. The Hoover Volunteer Fire Department's firefighting gear was over 10 years old and needed replacing. The department bought new structure and wildland fighting gear.

The 85,000-square-foot office building, at 401 E. Fayette St., near City Hall, also houses the city’s finance and information technology departments. It was built in 1981, according to state records.

The smoke appeared to have originated on one of the floors above the Fire Department’s mezzanine-level offices, Skinner said.

Brown said he plans to make a final inspection visit to the assembly plant in Ephrata, Pa., where the truck is being built, on March 8.

 

Delivery of the truck, which has a price tag of $950,000, has been delayed a couple of times already. One of the delays was due to manufacturer Smeal Fire Apparatus being bought by Spartan ERV.

 

The new ladder truck, like the one it will replace, is a tiller truck. A tiller truck requires drivers at both the front and rear; a straight truck is driven only from the front.
