Spokane Valley firefighters create communication network to aid in flood relief

Spokane Valley firefighters traded in their fire truck for a specially designed communications trailer this week to help with flood relief in Okanogan County. John Nelson, with the Spokane Valley Fire Department, said the crew he's with sets up radio networks to make it safer and easier for responders to stay in touch and keep up with flood relief.

Equipment stolen from Yakima County station, firefighters say

Equipment has been stolen from a fire station in Yakima County, firefighters say. Firefighters with the Yakima County Fire District 5 said one of their 16 stations was burglarized Thursday morning. The alleged thief or thieves made off with $35,000 to $40,000 worth of equipment. Two brand new self-contained breathing apparatus, a generator, a circular saw, a chain saw, air lifting bags, a tool box and some fire department protective clothing used to respond to emergencies were missing in this incident.

U.S. Forest Service Opens Fire Station In Lake Isabella

The fire station and visitor center is outfitted with solar panels to produce 8 kilowatts of renewable energy for the station.

“We are very pleased with the addition of this facility to our valley," Sequoia National Forest District Ranger Al Watson said in a news release. "The location will improve response time and provide easy access to Highway 178 while contributing to the needs of the community’s health and safety.”

New Salt Lake City Fire Station To Create As Much Energy As It Consumes

Station 14 was built as a Net Zero Energy building, a design concept that utilizes solar features, specialized insulation, natural light and other energy-efficient materials ,officials said.

The new facility generates its own power from a 110-kilowatt solar array comprised of more than 300 panels.

Living quarters have 10 single-bunk rooms and two officer suites, and an administrative station office, kitchen, maintenance and training rooms.
