Seattle firefighters battle 2-alarm blaze new

Seattle firefighters battled a two-alarm blaze Sunday afternoon in the Duwamish Industrial District. The fire was in the Olympic Foundry in the 4800 block of Airport Way South. The call came in about 2 p.m. and was put out about 3 p.m. There were no injuries. The fire response has blocked the road.

Flames engulf Spokane Valley garage

Units with the Spokane Valley Fire Department and Spokane County Fire District 8 responded to a structure fire just before 9 a.m. Saturday. Arriving crews found a garage at 4209 S. Sunderland was on fire. Engine 84 upgraded the incident to a working fire which brought more resources to the scene. Units aggressively attacked the garage fire and were able to slow the fire's spread.

Central Whidbey fire chief honored by Red Cross

The American Red Cross recognized Ed Hartin, fire chief with Central Whidbey Island Fire and Rescue, for his efforts in improving cardiac arrest survival in the community. Under Hartin, the fire district provides hands-only CPR training and has helped increase public access to AEDs. At the Northwest Washington Red Cross Heroes Breakfast, Hartin said “improving cardiac arrest survival is a team effort” and recognized WhidbeyHealth EMS, the Town of Coupeville and the community as key partners in the effort.

1 taken to hospital after apartment fire in Tacoma

One person was taken to the hospital after a fire at a Tacoma apartment Thursday night. Firefighters responded after reports of a fire in the 5700 block of North 33rd before 9 p.m. Crews were able to put the fire out. The condition of the hospitalized person is unknown. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
