A man is in custody Thursday after he violated a court order and assaulted a family member and then barricaded himself inside a home for hours, starting a fire and causing significant damage inside the house, police said. The incident began around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday when officers responded to a call about a domestic violence order violation in the 7300 block of 52nd Avenue NE.

A dog died and a home was badly damaged after a blaze broke out in a Kennewick home. An officer spotted the smoke coming from the house on the 1200 block of West First Avenue around 8:20 a.m. Thursday. When firefighters from Kennewick, Richland, Pasco and Benton County Fire District 1 responded, they found flames coming from a bedroom window.
