Phoenix (AZ) Increasingly Taps Taxis for 911 Callers to Hospital

The number of taxi rides is growing — overwhelmingly so for people in poor neighborhoods — as fire officials wrestle with more calls and limited resources.

The little-known operation, known as the taxi-voucher program, is billed as a way to tend to medical transports not deemed emergencies. Taxi vouchers are paid for by the city and cost a fraction of an ambulance ride.

The boat holds eight people, and the propless motor will allow for safe travel in shallow water over a rocky bottom.

Chillicothe (MO) Fire Department Now Has Grain Rescue Fire Equipment

The Chillicothe Fire Department has acquired a grain rescue kit through a monetary donation from a Livingston County farm family. This grain rescue kit will provide the equipment needed to rescue a trapped farmer, grain industry worker, or anyone who could possibly find themselves in a grain entrapment, according to Fire Chief Darrell Wright. The chief explained that the kit goes around the person who is trapped to stabilize the grain. The grain is then removed from inside the rescue wall, and the person is pulled out to safety. “This family saw a need for Livingston County and the surrounding area to have a grain rescue kit, so they made a $3,100 dollar donation,” Wright said. This kit will work will other kits that surrounding fire departments have as well, to expand the wall with more panels, or to have extra augers, or just extra helpers. The family donating the funds asked to remain anonymous.

Historic fire truck finds new home with Marin History Museum

The truck was used by the now-defunct Tamalpais Forest Fire District, which oversaw about 257 square miles, including Mount Tamalpais, Muir Woods National Monument and more. The truck is believed to be either the first or second truck purchased by the district in 1935. A San Anselmo metal shop built a body on the truck chassis that could hold a pump, a hose and a 200-gallon water tank.
