John Knighten is a name many Spokanites know. He was a firefighter with Spokane's Fire Department for almost two decades before a multiple myeloma cancer diagnosis ended his journey.
"He was a really good firefighter, a really good F.E.O and a really good person," said Spokane Fire Chief Brian Schaeffer.

Nearly two years after a wildfire was set intentionally in North Spokane County, officials said Tuesday they have a suspect.
This is the fire that started back in August 2016. It was one of several fires burning in the Little Spokane/Rutter Parkway area of North Spokane County. It is a combination of state Department of Natural Resources land and private homes.

A man was killed Tuesday evening when a fire broke out in his mobile home in Puyallup.
The fire broke out just before 5 p.m. in the 10400 block of 160th Street Court, said Guy Overby with Central Pierce Fire & Rescue.
A neighbor called 911 to report smoke and flames coming from the trailer. Three men came over to help and found the 52-year-old victim on fire sitting on his scooter outside the home.

The East Liverpool Fire Department regional hazmat team was recently awarded nearly $100,000 to upgrade its respiratory equipment.
The grant, written by the city fire department, was awarded through the county Emergency Management Agency (EMA) from the state’s Homeland Security Grant Program.

The hazmat team responds throughout Columbiana County when requested by local fire departments, and this equipment upgrade will enhance responders’ safety, according to East Liverpool fire Chief Bill Jones.

Firefighters are battling a house fire in Renton with a possible grow operation inside.
The fire broke out just before 4:00 p.m. Tuesday at a home on SE Petrovisky Road, near 116th Ave. SE.
Crews arrived to find heavy smoke pouring out of the home as the fire spread to the attic. They moved to a defensive attack on the fire, due to possible hazards inside the home.
