Pasadena (CA) Unveils New High-Tech Fire Apparatus

Firefighters gave police personnel, city officials and community guests an up-close look and tour of the new $1.29 million unit, designed better meet environmental emissions standards and provide the department with improved efficiency when saving lives.

“As our firefighters respond out to the community we want to ensure that they have the most functional pieces of apparatus, tools, and equipment and this unit is going to help them,” said Pasadena Fire Department Chief Bertral Washington.

The new 2017 Seagrave Tiller Drawn Aerial Ladder Truck replaces the previous ladder truck of the same model that was manufactured in 1995.

Brock (Canada) Looking for New Pumper Fire Apparatus

Township chief administrative officer (CAO) Thomas Gettinby said the extra funding required would come from capital reserves, with the cost coming in closer to $450,000.

 

The existing 2003 pumper at Beaverton would go to the Cannington station and the older 2001 pumper would move to Beaverton as a spare. It would only be required about 30 times a year, he said.

Waynesboro (PA) Fire Station Floor to be Evaluated

Waynesboro Borough Manager Jason Stains expected a contract to go out to the company Thursday and have an assessment done later this month.  

Firefighters have raised concerns about the foundation before the department houses the new ladder truck.

At 50,000 pounds, Waynesboro’s new ladder truck weighs two thousand pounds more than the department’s previous aerial apparatus, according to Waynesboro Assistant Fire Chief John Beck.

Mold Found in South Portland (ME) Fire Station

The mold was found last year during a maintenance check at the Cash Corner Fire Station. Fire officials say one bedroom and the workout room are currently closed due to surface mold.

 

"From what we're being told, probably since the station was built. It's been generating overtime, and it's been hidden in the walls so it wasn't visible, so it probably started in the 1970's," said South Portland Fire Chief James Wilson.

Follow Up: Power line falls on ladder truck as Seattle firefighters battle blaze

As Seattle firefighters were battling a house fire Thursday morning, a live power line fell onto a ladder truck but no firefighters were inside at the time, said Seattle Fire Department spokeswoman Kristin Tinsley. Firefighters arrived at the fire at 15th Avenue and East Cherry Street at 11:20 a.m., got the blaze under control in 19 minutes and saved a neighboring house that sustained some damage, she said.
