Report: Houston Fire Department Has Inadequate Fire Equipment to Handle Floods

A City of Houston Hurricane Harvey Preparation Plan, obtained by Channel 2 Investigates, shows the Houston Fire Department has shockingly little flood rescue equipment, and it appears to have contributed to millions of dollars in losses for the city in totaled fire trucks.
The Houston Fire Department lost 28 pieces of equipment during the storm, including six engines, which cost about $500,000 each to replace. Four “boosters," smaller trucks with on-board water supplies, are also total losses.

In a city of 2.3 million people that floods regularly, the Houston Fire Department only owns one high-water vehicle.

494,000 Ram Trucks Recalled for Fire Hazard

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is recalling almost half a million medium- and heavy-duty Ram trucks over a water pump issue that could potentially cause a fire. The company said it is not aware of any injuries or accidents related to the issue, which affects 2013-17 Ram 2500 and 3500 pickups and 3500, 4500 and 5500 chassis cabs.
"Customer feedback prompted an FCA US investigation that discovered certain trucks are equipped with a water-pump bearing that, after exposure to certain conditions, may overheat and potentially cause an engine-compartment fire," the release said. "Compromised water-pump function may activate a warning light in an affected vehicle’s instrument cluster. Customers are urged to consult their dealers whenever they observe warning lights."

The Time a Chicago Dad Came Home With a Fire Apparatus

We didn't entirely believe our dad when he told us he was purchasing an old fire truck. Although he had a fondness for antique cars and motorcycles, my brother and I weren't sure whether to believe he had gone off to add a 1939 Mack fire engine to his revolving collection.
My brother and I spotted it: a 1939 Mack fire engine, faded red, rounded fenders, slowly rolling up 100th Street. Dad was at the wheel, announcing his homecoming by stepping on the siren button just to the right of the gas pedal.
