PIERCE MANUFACTURING INC. has introduced the new Pierce® High Flow Industrial Apparatus that is capable of flowing 5,500 gallons per minute (gpm) when drafting and up to 10,000 gpm when drawing from a pressurized water source. The Pierce High Flow Industrial Apparatus features the first application of a Darley 2ZSM. To complement its water pumping capabilities, Pierce expanded its line of Husky™ foam systems. The new Husky 450 foam system delivers up to 450 gallons of foam concentrate per minute.
Simplicity of operation is another focus of Pierce’s product development team. One case in point is Pierce’s exclusive valve controllers that provide true valve position indication and control with the touch of a button. Moreover, the new patent-pending flow meters are an industry first and provide accurate flow data across a broad range of flow rates. The Pierce High Flow Industrial Apparatus is available on either the Pierce Velocity® or Pierce Arrow XT™ custom chassis, each featuring a 600-hp engine.
LION, a manufacturer of chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) personal protective equipment (PPE), has achieved “Certified Status” by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Safety Act. Since 2011, LION’s CBRN products have qualified as “Designated Status.” However, “Certified Status” acknowledges that LION’s CBRN products are recognized by the DHS Science and Technology branch as having significant and effective technology that has the potential to save lives in the event of a terrorist incident.
The INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF FIRE CHIEFS (IAFC) and PIERCE MANUFACTURING INC. recently announced the 2017 winners of the annual “IAFC Fire Chief of the Year” awards. Volunteer Fire Chief Brian Wade (left), of the North Lenoir Fire & Rescue Department in Kinston, North Carolina, and Career Fire Chief Marvin Riggins (right), of the Macon-Bibb County Fire Department in Macon, Georgia, are this year’s honorees.
A committee appointed by the IAFC selects the award recipients, evaluating the nominees based on leadership, innovation, professional development, integrity, and contributions to the fire service. The awards are sponsored by Pierce. Both honorees are highly accomplished individuals with impressive career, educational, and certification credentials as well as civic involvement. Their commitment to the fire service and their communities is evidenced by numerous awards they’ve received and the accolades offered in support of their nominations.
SCOTT SAFETY has been selected by the State of California to provide technology and equipment to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) to help keep a team of 5,600 firefighters safe in harsh environments. ALLSTAR Fire Equipment, headquartered in Arcadia, California, Scott Safety’s distribution partner, helped initiate the new contract and will service CAL FIRE throughout California. The state awarded the contract after a lengthy field trial and evaluation. CAL FIRE’s new Scott Safety equipment will include 2,400 self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), which exceed the industry’s current heat protection requirements and include features such as variable cylinder pressures, dual-redundant pressure reducers, smart backframe contour design, and the Made in the U.S.A. promise.
