Working smoke detectors save Spokane Valley home from burning

The home was vacant at the time the fire started just after 7:00 a.m. A woman who was walking by the property heard the sound of smoke alarms and immediately called 9-1-1.

"We've put together a committee of firefighters and officers to look at different designs that other departments around us are using and hopefully come up with a design that'll work for us," Fire Chief Brad Davies said.

Once the design process is over, they just have to wait for it to be built and delivered.
