New Augusta (ME) Fire Apparatus Needs Repairs

AUGUSTA - The city's new, $1 million multipurpose ladder firetruck is in the shop for repairs after parts of its hydraulic system failed within just a few weeks of being put into service. The city still has its older ladder truck in service, which the new truck was to replace, to help fight fires requiring a rig with a ladder while the newer truck is fixed.

High-Rise Fire Engine Without 24-Hour Crew in Northern Ireland

A reduction in firefighters at Northland Road that left a special fire appliance designed to tackle high-rise blazes without a dedicated crew hasn't been reversed, the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed.
The Derry Journal reported on a staffing situation for the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service that has left an aerial appliance lacking a dedicated crew.

If you never got over you childhood love of fire trucks, you might want to check out the CAG Auto used-car lot on South Broadway in Wichita. For $5,000, you could drive home in a fire engine of your very own. CAG Auto, at 4333 S.
The Wichita Eagle reports on a low-mileage, lightly used 1978 Ward La France fire engine for sale for sale at CAG Auto.

James Porter, the lot's owner, said he originally bought the fire truck for his own use. He had planned to strip the tanks and pumps off the back and convert the heavy-duty chassis into a car carrier, but things did not go as planned.

California rookie firefighter pulls captain to safety after roof collapse

A Menlo Park Fire Captain sustained moderate burns in a house fire after the roof he was standing on gave out as the attic burned beneath him, late Friday. The Fire Captain, a seasoned veteran with the Fire District, had just guided a Probationary Firefighter as he cut a square ventilation hole in the roof of the residence, located on Nassau Drive near the Menlo Park-Atherton border.
