Fire destroys Clallam County home, sends two to hospital

Two people were rescued from a burning home on Thornton Drive overlooking the Dungeness Spit. The house at 20 Thornton Drive was declared a complete loss after the Friday blaze, which spewed flames and smoke seen as far away as Port Angeles. The homeowner, Dorothy Saxton, 95, and her daughter, Donna Huizinga, were rescued by electricians working nearby, said Assistant Chief Dan Orr of Clallam County Fire District No.

Yakima: Cause of blaze at apartment building still under investigation

Authorities continue to investigate the cause of a Saturday afternoon apartment fire that injured two people, displaced dozens and caused approximately $30,000 in damage. While the fire in an apartment on the third floor of building in the 300 block of West Yakima Avenue was contained to one room, there was considerable smoke damage to the entire third floor, according to a news release from the Yakima Fire Department.

Follow Up: San Juan Island EMS faces budget concerns as chief resigns

Even after an increased tax levy in 2016, San Juan Island Emergency Medical Services still isn’t out of the woods. Kinston Fire Department Looking At New Training Site

Five acres of land off of Brown Street will allow officers to train on structural fires and learn more about the behavior of fires. The city is in the process of coming to a five year agreement to get this site up and operating. Both the department and the community will benefit from this new training site.
