Controversy over fire department's 'rolling bypasses' continues in Delaware city

As Buster Snow watched flames jump from his burning SUV to the back of his and his neighbor's adjoining home, the 42-year-old Wilmington man wondered where the fire department was. He remembers seeing ambulance workers and police officers watching the fire that afternoon, but Engine No. 3, the Wilmington Fire Department pumper engine stationed less than five blocks from his home, was nowhere in sight.

New Jersey state overseers ask judge to reconsider Atlantic City firefighter ruling

State overseers of the city have asked a a Superior Court judge to reconsider his shutdown of a move to lay off 50 city firefighters, saying the city can’t afford their salaries. The state filed its motion last week, asking Judge Julio Mendez to reconsider his late August ruling preventing the layoffs.

North Carolina fire chief hangs up his helmet after 50 years

Don Oliver was just 2 years old when he had his first encounter with firefighters, but it was a pairing that lasted a lifetime. It all started when Oliver’s mother had the toddler stand near the Christmas tree for a New Year’s Eve photograph in his hometown of St. Paul, Minnesota. Oliver said he decided to imitate his dad by flicking one of the bulbs on the tree while his mother changed the film.

Las Vegas mayor ‘shocked’ at claims of firehouse sex

Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman said Friday she was “shocked” at another round of allegations of sex in a city firehouse because the issue was “very clearly addressed” earlier this year. Months after claims of sexual misconduct, city officials are investigating allegations that a firefighter violated department policy in August by having sex at a fire station.

Michigan's oldest operating fire department looking to get global recognition

VIDEO - A northern Michigan fire department may soon get some worldwide recognition. The city of Manistee Fire Department is the oldest operating firehouse in the state of Michigan. Firefighters and city officials have now applied to the Guinness World They hope to get recognized as the ‘Oldest Continuously Manned Fire Station' in the world.
