A Spokane political committee will pay $7,000 for failing to properly report some $94,000 it spent to help two city council candidates win in the 2015 municipal elections.
Spokane for Honest Government, which got the bulk of its money that year from the local firefighters union and its political action committee, spent the money on independent ads backing council candidates Karen Stratton and Lori Kinnear, who were both elected.

Horry County Fire Rescue Station 23, also known as University Station, recently made the move from Victory Lane to a new state-of-the-art facility located on S.C. 544. Officials broke ground on the building in September 2016 and began using the station this past week.
Officials said the new, modern facility is much larger than the old station that was adjacent to woods behind Horry Georgetown Technical College’s Conway campus. They said they can now serve S.C. 544 area residents much faster.
“It’s really about quicker response times, [particularly] near the university,” said HCFR spokesman Capt. Mark Nugent. “Obviously, we’re right in the middle of a college campus.”
