Louisville (KY) Fire Department Unveils New Fire Apparatus

The Louisville Fire Department unveiled new fire trucks on Monday morning. Two new trucks, Engine 20 and Quint 9, were purchased to modernize Louisville's Fire Department.

The new trucks have higher water pumping capacity, higher weight capacity and state of the art safety systems.

"I want to make sure that our community knows that obviously public safety is the number one area that we have to invest in our budget and these purchases reflect a commitment from Chief Frederick, Chief Doug Hamilton (and) myself," said Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer.

Lafayette (IN) Teenager Killed in Accident with Fire Apparatus

Seventeen-year-old Kaleb Emery of Lafayette died Saturday after his moped collided with a fire engine at South and Third streets.
Emery rode his eastbound moped through a red light about 8:10 p.m. Saturday on South Street and into the path of Ladder 3, which was southbound on Third Street, Lafayette police Sgt. Will Carpenter said.

Emery died at the scene, he said.

"This was completely unavoidable for that truck and that driver," Carpenter said.

The driver of the fire truck, Lafayette fire Sgt. Doug Newhart, and his passenger, Lafayette fire Lt. Mike Blann, were not injured in the crash, Fire Chief Richard Doyle said.

Fire crews quickly get Spokane garbage truck fire under control

Authorities are investigating an arson fire at Shopko in Lacey Monday morning, according to Lacey Fire District 3. The fire was set in the compactors behind the store at 5500 Martin Way E., and extinguished before it could spread. It was reported shortly after 10 a.m. The fire department reports Lacey police are searching for a suspect.
