Cops: Vandals Shatter Sarasota (FL) Fire Station Windows

A fire station in Sarasota was vandalized twice last month, according to the sheriff's office. According to detectives, two hurricane resistant windows were shattered on two separate occasions, resulting in an estimated $4,000 worth of damage. This happened once on August 3 and again on August 31.
Detectives said anyone with information about the incidents is asked to call the agency’s Criminal Investigations Section at 941.861.4900. Tipsters can also submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers of Sarasota by calling 941.366.TIPS, or online at www.SarasotaCrimeStoppers.com.

U-Crest (NY) Fire Apparatus Snaps Power Pole

Traffic on Union Road is impacted after a U-Crest fire truck crashed into a power pole Thursday afternoon. First responders are on the scene at the corner of Union Road and Clover Place. A U-Crest fire truck struck a pole at the intersection around 12:45 pm. The pole snapped.
A law enforcement source at the scene says the fire truck was making a right-hand turn onto Union Road from Clover Place and cut the corner to close. The fire truck was not responding to an emergency.

Park Ridge (IL) Fire Department Debuts New, Grant-Funded Fire Apparatus

One year after announcing it was the recipient of a federal grant to purchase a new, state-of-the-art fire engine, the Park Ridge Fire Department is a proud owner of the truck.
The truck was purchased with a $500,000 grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency's Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program, with a $50,000 match from the city, the department said last year.

The engine replaces a truck that was 22 years old. Last year, Fire Chief Jeff Sorensen said the aging vehicle frequently required repairs and maintenance and, because many parts were not immediately available due to its age, it was out of service for extended periods.

Monroe, Ida (MI) Get New Fire Apparatus, Fire Equipment

The volunteer fire departments at Monroe and Ida townships have received a new fire truck and other necessary equipment thanks to federal grants that total hundreds of thousands of dollars. Monroe Township has a new rescue pumper in operation that was obtained through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program.

Supervisor Alan Barron said the 2017 Pierce Arrow XT rescue pumper costs almost $628,000 and the federal grant covered more than $476,000 of the price. The township’s board of trustees agreed to cover the remaining costs of $151,767.

In Ida, the fire department also used grant funds to purchase needed equipment. The same program, which falls under Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), awarded the department $214,000. The grant funds will be used to replace the department’s aging self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) and cascade system. This is the first grant the Ida Fire Department has been awarded through the AFG program.

1 killed, 5 injured in Crash Involving Fire Truck in Louisville (KY)

One person is dead after a crash involving a fire truck. Louisville Metro police said the crash was reported around 8:45 a.m. at McCloskey Avenue and Algonquin Parkway. The crash involved a fire truck and a green sedan. Police said the fire truck was heading west on Algonquin Parkway in emergency mode.

Louisville Fire officials said four crew members were taken to University Hospital with minor injuries. The woman in the green sedan was taken to University Hospital, but her condition is not known.


One person was pronounced dead at the scene.
