New York fire department will send out heavy rescue truck less

Two firefighters assigned to the city’s fire department heavy rescue truck are sent out several times a day on all kinds of calls, from helping out senior citizens injured in falls to victims suffering from heart attacks or are involved in a serious motor vehicle crashes. But the rescue truck soon won’t be going out on quite so many calls.

Construction shop bursts into flames while owner dines with Whatcom County fire chief

A fire tore through a 10,000-square-foot construction shop here Saturday morning. Friberg Construction’s shop burst into flames around 7:15 a.m., fire authorities say. The building was filled with flammable liquids and thousands of dollars in vehicles and equipment. Fire officials say the building carried a heavy fire load, including diesel, gas and kerosene.

Kittitas City Council discusses fire annexation

The Kittitas City Council on Tuesday discussed having the city annex fire and EMS services into Kittitas Valley Fire and Rescue. The issue of fire response in the city of Kittitas has been a topic of discussion for several years. Council members looked at three options during a worksession: The Kittitas Fire Department remains independent and continues to work with KVFR.

Skagit County Fire District 1 service contract accepted; chairwoman resigns

After months of discussion, Skagit County Fire District 1 and the city of Mount Vernon once again have a service contract — although the district is now seeking a new commissioner as a result of the debate that ended in the commission chairwoman’s resignation. The accepted contract means the fire district will pay the city $33,000 annually for fire service.
