Niagara Falls Fire Station Approved for $500K Addition

An addition will be built to station three of the Niagara Falls Fire Department.

During this week’s council meeting, politicians awarded a $513,874 contract to the lowest bidder, Scott Construction Niagara Inc., to do the job.

The project will cost $542,374, including consulting services.
The Niagara Falls Review reported on an addition coming to the local department's Fire Station 3.

Fire station three was built in the late 1960s, and was constructed using solid built masonry walls with an exterior face brick supported on a concrete foundation, the report said. During the past 50 years, staff at the Dorchester Road station has doubled, with four firefighters working either a 10- or 14-hour shift.

Ambulance to Be Placed in GA FIre Station

Folks who live out in Ochlocknee and rural Thomas County may soon see faster emergency response times. An ambulance will be placed at the Ochlocknee fire station starting on September 5th.
WTVM had a update on additional EMS service for one stretch of rural Georgia.

Arkansas Opts In To FirstNet

ARKANSAS (KFSM) -- Efforts are underway to streamline communication between first responders in Arkansas. Governor Asa Hutchinson announced Arkansas will opt in to the First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet), becoming one of the first states in the nation to participate. FirstNet is forming the first nationwide public safety broadband network to provide advanced communication and collaboration.
KSFM reported on the state of Arkansas opting into FirstNet, the first nationwide public safety broadband network for firefighters, police, and other first responders.

Instead of relying on multiple radio networks, FirstNet will be a single way for emergency crews to communicate, stretching nationwide.

Man who struck and killed Michigan firefighter during MDA fundraiser gets deal

The man police say intentionally struck and killed a firefighter who was collecting donations for charity pleaded guilty Thursday as part of an agreement with prosecutors. Grant Taylor, 24, of Lansing, pleaded guilty but mentally ill to second-degree murder and other charges in a plea deal in the death of firefighter Dennis Rodeman.

Feds say mistakes contributed to the deaths of two Kansas City firefighters

Kansas City firefighters now take two simple safety steps that might have saved the lives of two colleagues in a 2015 building collapse. The steps were among the recommendations in a federal report released Thursday. Emergency tones are sounded, as they were two years ago, when firefighters are ordered out of a collapse zone.
