Onalaska Fire District Buys New Pumper Tanker, Refurbishes Ambulance

PHOTOS: Earlier this month, Onalaska residents participated in a push-in ceremony alongside Lewis County Fire District 1 (LCFD1) firefighters after the department’s new Rosenbauer pumper tanker was delivered. Onalaska elementary and middle school students helped wash the new truck before the ceremonial push-in on June 6, LCFD1 Chief Brad Flexhaug said.

Brier house fire displaces 6

A house fire in Brier displaced six people Wednesday, according to fire officials. Around 10 a.m., Snohomish County Public Utility District workers noticed black smoke coming from the back of a house in the 3000 block of 224th Place SW, South County Fire spokesperson Leslie Hynes said. Richard “Red” Jensen lived in the bottom floor of the house with his wife.

Mississippi Senate honors the state's first African American fire chief

A pioneering firefighter is getting some overdue recognition. The Mississippi Senate and the City of Starkville have honored former Starkville fire Chief Willie Johnson with a resolution from the state. Johnson was the first African American fire chief in the state of Mississippi. Johnson’s legacy began in 1988 when he took on the unprecedented role.

Firemen or Firefighter? A Push For The Latter is Making Waves This Week in Maryland

With the Maryland State Firemen's Association Convention in town, a possible name change is looming. Some feel a simple change to 'Firefighter' would be more inclusive for women. The MSFA said this is not the first time they have heard this proposal and that a name change is 100% on the table this year.
