Teen's 4th of July joyride ends with family's SUV torched in the Skyway area

A 14-year-old boy, who took his parents' SUV for a joyride to get fireworks, wound up accidentally torching the vehicle outside the family's home Tuesday morning. Firefighters were called to a home on S. 122nd St. in the Skyway area for a vehicle fire around 9:45 a.m. According to the King County Sheriff's office, the boy took the family's SUV without permission, picked up some friends, went to buy fireworks to celebrate the 4th of July the returned home.

Fire causes partial roof collapse at Tacoma apartments near University Place

A 12-unit apartment building in Tacoma near University Place went up in flames Tuesday afternoon, resulting in a partial roof collapse, Tacoma fire officials said. The two-alarm fire at 2602 Westridge Ave. West started at about 4 p.m. and caused damage to all 12 apartments in the building, but no one was believed to be hurt or missing, said Tacoma Fire Department spokesman Joe Meinecke.

Kentucky firefighters injured during community fireworks show

Four firefighters in Martin County, Kentucky, were injured when a shell exploded on the ground. It was all caught on camera. Everyone said they're lucky the damage wasn't any worse. The second annual Inez Independence Day Celebration had been off to a high-flying start Sunday night until the accident.

New Fire Truck Sparks Blaze along Washington Interstate

PHOTO/VIDEO - A new Richland fire truck’s engine blew up destroying the truck and sparking a blaze along Interstate 82 Monday afternoon. The city purchased the truck about a month and a half ago, Battalion Chief Ron Duncan said. Before the fire department started using it, a firefighter drove it to a Dodge dealership in Hermiston for service.

Virginia department witnesses its first all-female team, by chance

Grace Cuenin isn’t usually part of the Henrico Division of Fire’s Engine 13 unit. However, when the team needed to temporarily fill a space on a recent shift, it happened to be her turn to join. Cuenin worked with fellow firefighters Michelle Greep and Nichole Beall for the entirety of their 24-hour shift two weeks ago.
